Guided painting is a wonderful introduction to painting with acrylic on canvas.
This painting was inspired by the classic children's nursery rhyme, "Mary Mary". I loved this rhyme as a child, my mother was called Mary and I would wonder if she was Mary of the rhyme. She was always out in the garden so it seemed perfectly plausible. I also thought my Aunt was Princess Margaret, I had a colourful imagination or I was just easily confused.
I always thought that the rhyme was about Bloody Mary Tudor. I've checked Wikipedia, so bound to be right, and the rhyme could also be about Mary the mother of Jesus or Mary Queen of Scots. The oldest printed version appeared in 1744.
My original version of this painting featured 9 squares, (you can see that painting in the images below), which would have made for an extremely long class, so I repainted it with 6 and in this online version fewer colours.
Making Guided Painting available as an on-line resource has been in the works for a couple of years. I’m so pleased I finally got this to happen. I have been aware that not everyone can make a Guided painting session. Trying to schedule dates that students can make has been the more trying aspect of running art classes. Having online classes means that you don’t have to live near Brisbane or even in Australia to enjoy one of the online Guided painting sessions. Any time zone, any country you can be creative and love the joy of painting.
All my online Guided paintings are beginner friendly and you will learn as you paint. I have “graded“ them for difficulty. I have taught all of these paintings to a “live Class". The advantage for you is that I know the pitfalls several students have encountered and guide you through them. They’re a great ‘warm-up’ exercise for experienced painters too. If you aren’t familiar with acrylic paint this is a fantastic way to get acquainted. My philosophy is to be completely transparent with my instruction so that you learn as much as possible. I want you to succeed and find the joy of creativity. It’s good for your brain, your mind, and your soul.
